You can either add a node naming convention (useful if your company's hostname's include the system's location), or add a location to a single IP or range of hosts with similar IP addresses.
Add node naming convention
Click the add name button in the node naming convention section to bring up the dialog box below:

First of all enter the domain name associated with this node naming convention, for example visualware.com.
Then enter the search string that will be situated in the node name. In the example above we have added lon.
You would then choose the country and city that lon represented from the drop down menus. Clicking ok will add this node naming convention to your copy of VisualRoute. From now on any time lon was found in a node name associated with visualware.com the location Guildford, UK would be given.
Adding an IP location
Click the add name button underneath the IP addresses section to bring up the dialog box below

The first step is to enter the IP address of CIDR range.
For example to add all hosts in the range 161.58.180.0 - 161.58.180.255 enter 161.58.180/24
The next step is to add the country and city to the IP address / range of hosts. Choose the country and then city from the drop down menus. Once this has been done click the Ok button to save the changes.
Set home location
To set the home location (the location where all traces start) click the set home location button. That will bring up the dialog box below:

To set the home location first check the all traces begin from the same geographic location check box.
Now, as before, choose the country and city that all traces begin from, then click the ok button.
From now on all traces you perform will begin from this location. |
